With the release of the Barbie movie this week, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the pink-dialled watches sported by its stars Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell on the ‘Pink Carpet’ are just a marketing ploy. However, pink watches have been in vogue for a couple of years now: and we don’t just mean for the girls. What started around 2021 as a move towards salmon pink and rose quartz dials has snowballed into brighter, hot pink and cerise shades. It’s a trend that’s not reserved for watches either. Pink has moved into men’s fashion in a big way. In this article we explore why pink is so hot right now, share our pick of the best pink watches and discover why everyone should embrace this confident, playful hue.

Oris Diver's Sixty-Five 'Cotton Candy'

Famous Faces Embracing Pink

When in 2021, Daniel Craig famously wore a cerise tuxedo jacket to the premiere of ‘No Time to Die’. The Guardian reported that the choice was “symbolic of Bond’s evolving style”. It was seen as a style statement that was a “fitting farewell to a Bond era which has ruffled some traditionalist feathers”. Defying our expectations of masculinity, pink suits started popping up everywhere. First Jake Gyllenhaal wore an oversized baby pink Prada tuxedo to the Tony’s, then Timothée Chalamet made fashion headlines with a pink Stella McCartney suit at the Venice film festival. Fast forward to 2023 and pink is everywhere you look. From Mark Ronson to Harry Styles and Idris Elba, it’s no wonder the Pantone Colour of the Year is Viva Magenta.

How has Pink evolved into Watches?

For much of the Noughties and 2010s, Blue dominated watch dials as a colourful yet safe dial choice for luxury watches. Green dials started trending around 2018 and have continued to grow in popularity in recent years. However, the emergence of pink dials demonstrates a demand for more flamboyant timepieces. Bold and bright, pink dial watches both surprise and delight us.

Oris Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy

Oris was at the forefront of the pink dialled revolution with the release of their Bronze Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy Series in June 2021. This summer they’ve followed up with a trio of pastel shades in Stainless Steel. Available on a both a three-link stainless-steel bracelet and a recycled perlon strap, the Pink Dial Cotton Candy Divers Sixty-Five is both vibrant and fun. Named after the year of Oris’s first diver’s watch, the Divers Sixty-Five features 100 metres of water resistance and a Swiss made mechanical movement. The pink dial is detailed with Superluminova including the lollipop central seconds hand.

Nomos Club Campus Deep Pink

From iconic German brand Nomos Glashütte, the striking Club Campus Deep Pink draws inspiration from the vibrant, dynamic atmosphere of university campuses. Created as a casual and accessible timepiece, the deep pink dial stands for a positive attitude to life. Featuring contrasting Superluminova-coated numerals, indices, and hands that glow blue in the dark, the seconds hand is in neon orange. Additionally, the mix of Arabic numerals on the top half of the dial with Roman numerals at the bottom adds a lovely, light-hearted contrast. A discreet light grey velour strap ensures the watch gets all the attention it deserves. With a hand-wound movement (and up to 43 hours of power reserve), it’s available with a 36mm or 38mm case, making it a great unisex timepiece.

Fears Brunswick 40 Pink Dial Watch

British brand Fears create timepieces inspired by their heritage. The curvaceous Brunswick 40 is one of their sportier models, inspired by a 1924 gentleman’s cushion case watch from their archives. Described by Fears as “Flamingo Pink” the two-level matt dial is lacquered. A much more subtle shade of pink than the Nomos, Fears add two drops of grey to the lacquer, giving it a cool tone that changes in vibrancy depending on the light. This provides the perfect contrast to the silver/black applied Arabic numerals in the brand’s custom ‘Edwin’ typeface. With a beautifully finished case and bracelet and onion shaped crown, the sophisticated Brunswick 40 is equipped with an ETA 2824-2 movement and is 200m water resistant.

Oris Aquis Date 36.5mm Pink Mother of Pearl Dial

Another iconic Oris range given the pink dial treatment: the Aquis. This time in blush pink Mother of Pearl, the dial of the Oris Aquis Date shimmers in the light like “the surface of the water at sunset”. Equipped with an Oris 733 automatic calibre, the Aquis has a 38-hour power reserve. The 36.5mm case features a ceramic minute scale top ring and offers water resistance to 300 metres (30 bar).

Interestingly, Oris was also Will Ferrell’s brand of choice on the Pink Carpet this week. However, he opted for the Salmon Pink version of the Titanium ProPilot X.

Czapek Antarctique S Sashiko Pink Lotus

If you’re prepared to wait until 2025, you can pre-order the incredible Czapek Antarctique S Sashiko Pink Lotus. Limited to just 99 pieces, the ‘Sashiko’ dial pays homage to the geometric lines and three-dimensionality of the traditional Japanese stitching of the same name. Drawing on the skills of very small-scale, specialised producers, this mesmerising dial is rare. The unique three-dimensional pattern is based on a lotus flower. As light plays across the dial, the lotus pink appears to alternate between a pure sugary tone and a hint of mauve. To contrast with the dial pattern, a brushed ring provides a more calming backdrop for the hour markers.

Under the dial, the SXH5.01 automatic calibre equips the ‘Sashiko’ - the first calibre to be conceived entirely in-house by Czapek. Manufactured with the crème de la crème of Swiss manufacturing partners and craftsmen, it’s exceptional. From its off-centre microrotor allowing a view into the mechanism to the gear train held in place by a series of seven skeletonised bridges, its hard to know what to marvel at first.

The tapered bracelet is light and supremely comfortable to wear. However, thanks to its quick-change system, you can easily switch to the rubber or leather straps that come with the watch.

Frederique Constant Highlife Automatic Pink Dial

Okay so at 34mm, this is technically a ladies watch, but it’s making the cut anyway because I love it and it deserves universal appreciation. The perfect balance of sporty, classic and modern, the Highlife Automatic features the signature Highlife globe motif on the soft pink sunray dial. The refined hands and simple applied indexes are luminescent ensuring visibility in low light. Additionally, the integrated bracelet continues the sleek lines of the case. However, if you prefer, you can swap it out for the rubber strap supplied with the watch. The FC-303 automatic calibre features diamond colimaçon decoration and is visible through the exhibition caseback.
