Introducing the Oris ProPilot X Miss Piggy Edition
Oris kicks off 2025 with a return to the Muppets and a new 34mm case width.
The first working week of 2025 belonged to Oris this year, with the long-awaited follow up to join Kermit, Miss Piggy. I'm sure you all remember back in 2023 when Oris partnered with The Muppets to release a Kermit edition of their Pro Pilot X series. It was the brand's major release of the year, featured a Kermit green dial and came out of nowhere. Well, two years later, Oris has just announced its follow-up, and it's called upon The Muppets most fabulous character to debut some exciting new changes.

The ProPilot X, now 34mm
Referred to as a 'joyful collaboration', Oris teams up with Miss Piggy to soft launch a new 34mm size for the ProPilot X (PPX). In six years, this collection of forward-thinking expressions of the pilots watch has reduced in size from 44mm with the Calibre 115 to 39mm for the Calibre 400 models to now just 34mm for this Miss Piggy Edition. With more and more conversations in watches today centred around comfort, wearability, and proportions, this shift to a smaller size appears expertly timed by the Holstein-based manufacturer.
With this size reduction also comes a movement change from the Kermit, with the Calibre 531 – a Sellita-based movement – powering the watch. While some will be disappointed that the high-flying accolades of the Calibre 400 (not least its five days of autonomy) are not present here, what it lacks in power reserve it makes up for with its lower price point and lack of date window. Cast your mind back to 2023, and you'll remember that although the watch was a Kermit edition, his name and face weren't plastered all over the watch, but rather, his face replaced the first of every month in the date aperture. With Miss Piggy being sans date window, Oris integrated her onto the movement's rotor and placed a small mineral glass window for occasional reveals of her face.

We also get some significant changes on the dial side of the piece, as this edition marks the first time we see raised markers make their way to the Pro Pilot X collection. This has long been a common piece of feedback ever since the PPX Calibre 400 collection debuted in 2022, and its pink-on-pink execution here gives the watch just that extra dimensionality. However, one marker takes things even further, replacing the twelve with a lab-grown baguette-cut diamond: a first for the PPX collection.
The ProPilot X Miss Piggy Edition is available today at a retail price of £2,500.
First thoughts
This Miss Piggy Edition of the Pro Pilot X is, from my perspective, a tale of two paths. Firstly we have the obvious in Oris' partnership with The Muppets and their continued celebration of the not only famed but also insanely loved cast. First created in 1955, we all have a memory and connection to the Muppets, so to follow up Kermit with a Miss Piggy edition is not only playful but also makes a lot of sense.
"Like you, we're optimistic about the future, and we want to have some fun getting there. Life's too short not to have big dreams and to enjoy yourself. We made this watch for independent, stylish, and above all, fabulous individuals and we couldn't think of a better collaborator," says Rolf Studer, Oris Co-CEO and in our often very serious world of watchmaking, more and more recently, there is plenty of evidence to suggest that more carefree and entertaining pieces like this should and can exist.

Then we come to the second path of this piece: a positive indication of what's to come and how Oris sees the future.
Regardless of whether Miss Piggy resonates, there is much to garner from this release regarding Oris's future. Firstly, they have listened to many and introduced much-needed depth and additional interest to the PPX dial. While I believe the indices could increase in presence and maintain visual balance, this is a hugely positive step for this collection, especially as the case, bezel, and bracelet remain among the strongest heritage-inspired free additions in many years.
The use of a Sellita movement may seem like a downgrade and could be seen as a compromise due to desires of the case width not being able to fit the Calibre 400, but it does indicate that Oris is ready to offer us PPX models without their most premium movements. If this is the case, we may be right around the corner from more approachable price points, flexibility in future variations, potentially other complications such as chronographs, and a further rollout of this newer reduced-sized PPX. Let's see what Oris has up its sleeve for the rest of 2025.
